This very well can shed some light on how we evolved and how we were split into different species, chimpanzees and humans. I don't think that they could find out about people with autism and schizophrenia because why would some people have a trait that chimpanzees have and other humans don't?

Because of genetic mutation. The only reasons we have different characteristics is either they are a carrier of a gene, or genetic mutation. Schizophrenia can be caused by stress or anxiety. Perhaps the chemicals released to produce this emotion can mutate these cells, so that in turn the gene and other genes malfunction.

The FOXP2 gene is certainly the cause of language ability in humans and not in chimpanzees. I wonder if the FOXP2 gene mutates furthermore and maybe is influenced by a chemical that controls our thought process, then the human race could develop telepathy. (Ooooh, shivers, Voices in my head!)

to tell you the truth, i never wondered why chimps can't talk like humans. i always just assumed that they were talking, just in their own way. i agree with brandon f., that we probably could not find out about people with schizophrenia and autisim.

@Lily: I don't know how you would think that chimps were "talking in their own way" because we evolved from apes, so if they could talk "in their own way" we would've been able to talk that way some point along our evolutionary history.

I agree with lily

This was an interesting article, I wonder if FOXP2 can be mutated to give Chimps the ability of language. I always wondered why chimpanzees couldn't talk.

I thought that this article was important in many ways. What surprised me most was the fact that the FOXP2 gene is found in people with autism and schitzophrenia. But I agree with brandon on the fact that why do some people have similar to those of chimps and others don't.
