It's good that scientists are trying to get children to learn about the new species of microorganisms that are being discovered. They are being interactive by having a contest to name the species. Then when I got to the bottom of the page, I saw the title: Kings Play Chess On FAT GUYS' STOMACHS! I was laughing so hard! That's even more interesting than FINE GRAIN SAND (with a royal accent)! We should use that one more often in class! Maybe in class, we should have a contest to see who can make the funniest phrase to remember the classification order.

I think that if kids are going to send in names for that organism like fluffy or cookie, it would be really out of place with all the scientific names. I think if the kids really found out more information about it, than they could find an actual scientific name.

Brandon, that's a great idea!! Maybe we should have a contest!! The winner will get a ticket (maybe even two!!)!

Declan, they should be more scientific. Just like our poll, they should use prefixes and suffixes to create the names of the species...you agree?

this wasn't really a good article. i don't think it was very relevant to the title. and i agree with declan that the they shouldn't be giving these organisms names like fluffy and rover.

But Mrs. Ghazarian, I don't think the kids that this contest is geared towards can understands the prefixes and suffixes of microorganisms. Unless this contest includes 10-12 year olds, I don't think they will come up with anything productive. Furthermore, this contest was in 2006 anyways, so it's in the past. But it would be interesting to see what the results were!

I would probably name mine cheese. Don't ask me why. It thought it was cool because who wouldn't want to name a new extremophile. And living on the tip of salt. It is really cool.

I agree with Declan, it would be a waste for kids to send in "scientific names" like Fluffy, or Cookie. Like Brandon said, it's great that the scientists are making kids more interested in this topic by holding contests, but they should probably give some guidelines. They should probably have to do some research or something... I love Kings Play chess on fat guys' stomachs!!!! I thought... Kid's pretzels can order fat gooey stuff.
