The first time I watched this video at first, I knew the sizes of the objects within our solar system, getting bigger and bigger until you got to the Sun. Then you get to the giants, then to the supergiants, then finally the largest of them all, the hyper-giant! But then, the hyper giant is one of the tiny dots in our massive galaxy! Then there are thousands of galaxies! It's mind blowing how massive the area of "space" is. What you see outside at night is just a fraction of what's out there! The comparison of the planets to the stars to the bigger stars is very well done. You watch in amazement as they get bigger and bigger and bigger.....the dramatic music also helps it in making it more interesting. The video is very well done and must of taken extensive research to figure out what the biggest star was at the time.

Interesting! I was amazed by the size of the supergiants... Then came the really big ones! I thought that the earth was small compared to the sun, but the sun was tiny compared to the hypergiant! And the fact that it would take 1100 years to circle to biggest star known at 900 km per hour. I can't believe that some people have taken science so far.. Well, the video was wonderfully structured and had a great topic to talk about. Infinity usually makes me feel weird, but this made it really interesting to think about! I loved this video and I learned a lot from it. :]

WOW! That is incredible to think that it would take a passenger plane 1100 years to get around that star. I almost can't believe it

I thought that this video was great. I couldn't stop watching it. It is amazing that earth is only a tiny dot compared to the biggest known star. And that star is only a dot in a galaxy. And the galaxy is only a tiny dot compared to the universe.

The airplane passenger wouldn't even make it alive. Even if he did, they would run out of fuel before he went one quarter of the way around the star

WOW! I never knew that something could be that big. I thought that earth was large but I never new a star could be that big!

Oh my gosh! That is amazing! It's just mind-boggling how big these things are! and to think that they're so small in the vastness of space! And to think that we're so small and we have this really really really small thing inside of our skulls that can think about all this stuff that is so big!

This was one of the coolest plant videos I have ever watched I also agree with Brandon F about what you see outside at night is just a fraction of what's out there. I really wanted to do more research about all the planets that we don't see out side. The video was really good I was amazed about all the info that they put in it also the names of the planets were insane altogether I thought that this clip was great

First of all this is my amazing post. I thought that it was amazing that stars could get so big. Even bigger than our sun. much much bigger. I always thought that it would end but it just kept going and going. the facts like it would take 1100 years to go around the biggest star. it was also cool that there are so many HUGEMUNGOUS stars in the galaxy, and so many HUGEMUNGOUS galaxies in the universe. The music was a nice touch too.

Declan, i must agree with you in that our brains are incredibly fascinating to be able to synthesize and analyze all the things that it does! Yay us and our amazing brains!!

Elliott, the music was a good touch!

Victoria, it is cool how the video clip showed as an enjoyable aspect of infinity!

at first i thought the video was just going to go up to the sun and stop. but i was wrong! i never knew about those supergiants and that hypergiant! and i thought the sun was big! if the hypergiant looks like a speck from a long ways away, imagine what the sun would be!

This is by far the best non-reading blog post so far. It was so funny-- as I saw each star, I thought, "Wow this GOT to be the biggest.... Now that one, is just HUGE! There's no way on Earth there is a start bigger than that!" And this just kept going on, and on, and on! I liked how it noted how big the largest start known to man is. But really, there's no way that we know that is the biggest star. It might be one of the smallest! I heard recently that scientists can observe close to .000000000000001% of the actual universe that is anywhere nearby! Maybe after robotic spaceships or other major scientific breakthrough we will be able to travel the universe. For now, let's just stick with Earth. I wonder how fast the biggest hyper-giant revolves around per second! Isn't it true that the bigger the star/planet, the faster it moves? Anyways, thanks Eliott for posting this movie.

This was such a cool video! I liked how it showed everything so clearly and explained how long it would take for you to travel around the largest star known to man. WEll, I thought it was an awesome video. I also liked that not only the planets were showed, but also showed the stars. I learned a lot, and I can't stop watching it.

This video is very well created. It shows very clearly each of the objects within our solar system. I was so amazed with how they got bigger and bigger going to the giants, super giants and even hyper giants. It kept my interest the whole time because of the great animations. It showed me how we are only a tiny dot in the universe. It also gave me a great idea on a scale to portray the "small dot" idea. To stress that point even more, I learned that an airplane would take over a thousand years to travel all the way around it. It was very funny how it said at the end "NO-YOU-ARE-NOT-THE-CENTER-OF-THE-UNIVERSE." It's true for both of the ways it could be meant.

I thought this was really interesting. I thought the sun was really big!! I've always known there were stars bigger than the sun but I thought Sirius A was one of the biggest stars. When we got to the supergiants I was amazed. It is mind-boggling that it would take 1100 years just to orbit it once. The ship would probably run out of fuel though. The passengers would probably die before it got even partially around the planet.

That's really cool! VY canis majoris is huge! I liked the fact that it gave all the information with barely any words. I agree with brandon f., It's amazing that VY canis majoris is just a speck. To this speck, we are equivilent to about a speck to a cell. It's mind boggling how small we are compared to somethings, and how big we are to others!

I can't believe that the universe is so big! One thing that I would like to know is how somebody discovered that it would take 1100 years at 900 km per hour to circle the largest star. It would be hard to figure that out how big the biggest star is because it is so hot!

It was so cool. I agree with Brandon because I only knew up until the sun. it was an awesome fact that it would take lik 100,000,000 years to orbit the hypergiant. It was probably the most fun thing that has been up. Not that the other stuff wasn't fun.

i watched this clip and the first thing that happens is the music and it grabs you to watch the rest i also like how they hide the planet in front

This video was really interesting. I did not realize how big things can get. My favorite facts were that it would 1100 years to do one lap around this star and that it is a tiny dot in our solar system. I enjoyed watching the visuals when the planets got bigger and bigger, until it got to that huge star. I agree with Brandon, that this video was very well structured and I learned a lot from it.

I think that this was a very interesting and amusing video on the universe and its size. I learned lots of new things like different kinds of stars, and I was very surprised at how large things in space can be.

I liked this video. I never knew how much bigger the sun was than Jupiter. It was also interesting to see the differences between giants, supergiants, and hyper-giants. They got progressively larger and i enjoyed watching the video.

L.A. seems huge. California seems bigger. The USA seems giant. The continent seems gianormous. Earth seems huge!!! Then it's giants, supergiants, and hypergiants! Compared to a hypergiants, earth is tiny!! But compared to the galaxy, hyper giants are tiny! Compared to the billions of galaxies, the milky way is microscopic!! WOW! I really liked the video and thought that it was really fascinating! Who knew how big the UNIVERSE... could be?? Wow! If the universe is really that big, than how big am I? Am I'm even there? So just because something is bigger than I am, does that make me small? Or does that just mean that because earth is small, we are small? In our own minds, someone who is 7 feet is super tall.

A tall person must be pretty small. So i must be microscopic. In fact, if you are on a hypergiant star, I am invisible! Cool!

I agree with Noah. I think this was the best non-reading blog post. I love the music and the best part about it was that the images looked really realistic. When I first saw the hypergiant, I thought they were over-exagerating, but after they said that it takes about 1100 years to circle the hypergiant once!!!
I love this so much, I'll just go watch this again! Many thanks to Elliot!!!

It is Amazing to think that the largest known star is a tiny dot in the massive area we call "space" when we look at our planet we call it big, but it is microscopic compared to the red giants, the blue giants, the supergiants, and the hyper giants. If there were life forms on the hyper giant they would veiw earth under a microscope. Just seeing the movie made me feel very small and desolate in the universe around me.

Anaïs said...

Oh my God this is such a good video I love it! It's kind of freaky though to think that we are SO minuscule among all of that! And even the moon is invisible in size compared to that huge-o-mongus red hypergiant! It's amazing to think that a plane at 900 mph (which is already surprisingly fast) would take 1100 years to go all the way around it. Like Elijah said, WOW!!!

Griffin F. said...

That's awesome Elliot! It is really amazing how big stars can get compared to our sun. Imagine all of the other stars that are bigger than Polaris!

Brandon F said...

This video only shows the star we have discovered. Who knows how much bigger the stars get in different galaxies? They could be twice the size of VY Canis Majoris (although that is very hard to believe)!

dario said...

I thought that this was an amazing video! I knew everything in our solar system and the only other stars I knew about were Sirius A and Antares A, but those hyper giants were HUGE!!! I can't even think that there could be something so big, but there probably are some other stars that are even bigger than the red hyper giant, maybe some ultra, mega, super, hyper giant. And even that would be just a tiny dot in our massive universe and galaxy.

When I watched this video, every time it showed a bigger star i kept thinking, "this is probably as big as is gonna get" but it kept getting bigger and bigger. But by the end of the video it was clear that even the biggest of the hyper giants is only a miniscule speck in the massive galaxy and universe. The video was made very well and it explained a lot. Just when you think that the super giants are the biggest, up come the hyper giants!!!!! I thought that over all it was an awesome video.

Lily said...

it was funny how i was always like: this is the biggest. NO this is...and so on and so forth. the music also helped emphisize the size of the super/hyper giants.

I thought that this clip was incredible. I enjoyed it's graphics and information. I never knew that our sun was so small compared to other giants. I had never heard of things like hypergiants before this video. It really is a small, small world.

I found this video incredibly interesting. I thought that the sun was one of the largest stars in the solar system. I was wrong. I mean, when you think about it, the earth is pretty big in itself. It's hard to believe that there are other stars that are so big it would take an airplane traveling at 559.23407 mph 1,100 years to fly around it once. I also can't believe that that is just one dot in the solar system!

Ara said...

This Video was really interesting. And I thought the sun was the biggest. It's hard to believe that an airplane going 900 km. takes that long to fly. (I wonder how long it would take the concord)? The average airplane flies around 500 knots. (1 knot is 1.15 mph) Plus the airplane would run out of fuel after 22 hours. (Boeing 777) I wonder what it would be like if man actually went to one of the hypergiants!

Dana said...

That is awesome!!!! RED HYPERGIANTS ROCK!!!! They are so BIG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I liked this video a lot! I thought it was really good! If the hypergiant star is just a dot in all of our galaxies, then what if there is a bigger star in some other galaxy? also, how many galaxies are there? is there something that seperates the galaxies, or do the galaxies run into eachother? these are just some questions
