I notice that the saxophone player in the last video isn't much of a "human-shaped robot", but that was cool! This could be a good step toward making more human like robots, that can play music. Although this is REALLY expensive, what they can do next is make a robot orchestra! Flutes, violins, drums…

I personally loved this video because I'm really into robotics. I agree with brandon about the last robot with the sax. It wasn't a "human-shaped robot". What I really liked about this video was the last flute robot. If you look really closely at the robot, you can see "lungs" going up and down. I learned this at my robotics team. It's called pneumatics. The air pressure in the "lungs" bring them up and down, so the robot can function.

And it is smart that it refills at the right times so it doesn't miss a note.

The blog was interesting this is a step to future robots also people can learn technology and try and make further discoverys

I really enjoyed this article/video. it was amazing to me how they could program a robot to play an instrument. I like to robot with the mustache. I also enjoyed the picture they showed, that showed how the the robot would copy the music.

I found this article short, but I thought that that was all it needed because of the video. By the way, I think it was a human not a robot. Why wasn't the guy playing the flute??? Why was he playing saxophone? I think it's still really cool that people can teach robots to do things like play an instrument. I saw a movie on how they created a human like robot that was so much like a human that when he walked into a grocery store everyone thought he was a regular human. If they can make robots like that, they could make robots that resemble other people like Obama or his children. If any of you guys know: Do they make animal like robots too?

That is a really interesting video, because they show how they have taught robots to play music. Next, we'll have robot music teachers :). I liked watching the video, and you can really look closely and see the detail of how they function.

I thought that this video was REALLY AWESOME!!!!!!! It was so cool how that one robot can play along with a sax. I think Brandon's idea was really cool how we could make a robot orchestra! Overall, I thought that this was very very VERY interesting

That is so cool that they have programmed the robots to learn, not just to be programmed! So cool.

this was awesomely awesome!!! I found really cool how they programmed the robot to learn how to play the instruments, those pump things in the robot were like the lungs. Maybe they are going to create an orchestra completely made of robots. that would be cool

@Emma: Yes, they do make animal robots, probably for the fun of it. Or maybe they make them so that people can have robot pets.

@ brandon and emma

They do, but it's not for the fun of it brandon. At amusement parks, have you ever seen an animal robot? If you have, it's the same robotas the flute robot. They use the same audio information program to get authentic animal sounds. I also think that they might be using the visual program so the "animals" move like animals.

@Kent: Oh, like at Splash Mountain at Disneyland (Shoot! Now I have the song stuck in my head.).

KentoBento411 said...

YEAH! However, for Splash Mountain, I think they use actual humans. My prediction is that the humans sing the song, and the robots listen and move how they are programmed.

That is really cool how they were able to get the robots to play in sync. I play the clarinet, and it is amazing how the robots are able to get the pitch perfect. It must have cost a lot to fund this (program.) This will is probably a great step towards making robots perform other things. Like Kent and Brandon said, the sax player wasn't human shaped. Who knows what robots will be able to learn or be programmed to do next?

Wow that was really cool!!! I can't believe that the robot improvised it's own rythm. I wonder how the robot knew it was his turn to play.

Wow! That was really cool! At first it was kinda confusing, but once I got it, it was awesome!

To Sophie

I think they have some kind of sound sensor in it. In the LEGO Mindstorms, there is a sound sensor and one of its fuctions is: input and output. The "input" is the human playing and the "output" is the robot making its own music when getting the input.
