Wow, that's so cool! I never knew how sword swallowers swallowed swords! It's amazing how you can put the sword into your throat without damaging anything. Now that you know the science, you can ruin it for others the next time you are at a magic show.

I thought that was an absolutely amazing article. It's so fascinating how you can stick the sword through your throat and even into your stomach. Do you think that while practicing, sword swallowers might have injured themselves. Well, I believe it is a very dangerous sport. I'm not disagreeing with you Brandon, I'm just saying that I believe that it is certainly possible to damage something while "swallowing" a sword.

I found this article to be very interesting. I can not imagine how focused I would have to remain while shoving a whole metal, pointy sword down my esophagus. Just the sound of it is terrifying! It would take a lot of practice to keep a straight face while lining up your sword with your gastrointestinal tract, and then putting the sword past your esophagus. It sounds painful, but exciting. Even though I now know how to do this, I would rather just watch others do it...

I thought this article was cool too!! I never knew that swallowing a sword had some human anatomy to it! I wonder if this is the same thing as those fire-swallowing shows, in Hawaii. Also, I can't believe that a school actually TEACHES how to swallow a sword! If I was the principal at that school, I would cancel that class immediately, so I don't get sewed if a student gets injured...

I thought that that was a great article. It was amazing how you can stick a 3 foot sword down your throat without getting seriously hurt. I would think that by the time you got the whole sword down your throat you would be ready to die. I thought that the science behind it was cool too.

After you "swallow" the sword, does it just disintegrate? What if the sword is three feet tall, and you are six feet tall. There isn't really enough room for the sword in your stomach. It's kind of GROSS to think about. Emma, I think that they probably do injure themselves doing it at least the first couple times. If someone told me how to do it, even if they showed me for years, whether I was 20 or 5, when they handed me the sword, I would hurt myself. I think we all would. The question is, what exactly IS injured for a SWORD SWALLOWER?!?! Is injured, "cut my throat open and died?!?!?!" I know that's a little dramatic, but when you swallow swords and mess up, you can get really badly hurt. Personally, I think swallowing swords is really not smart, but hey, they can do what they want :).

I looked it up, and what at least the internet said was that sword swallowing started in America in 1817... when in the article it said in India

@ Etta: It probably started in India before 1817 in India, and somehow the sword swallowing hobby migrated to America.

The esophagus is very sensitive, so if you cut it open, not only will it hurt, (a lot!) you won't be able to eat anything. It's dangerous, and even though the article sounds and is interesting, I think it is too risky, even for someone who has done it a lot of times. I agree, with everyone who says this is too risky.
