This article was OK. Through my research on this topic, I have discovered that H1N1 is mainly airborne from mouth-to-mouth. A lot of people, especially on plane flights, have worn doctor's masks to prevent receiving the virus. Many people say the masks aren't worth it because the chances that you will get swine flu are very slim and the masks are told to be extremely uncomfortable. If this H1N1 virus becomes a serious pandemic, then we should all start taking precautions like wearing masks, (even if it is uncomfortable), not getting to close to each other, and getting routine checkups if any of the swine flu symptoms show up. Some of these symptoms include fever and coughing, serious fatigue, head aches, or upset stomaches. Sadly, already many people in our class have gotten swine flu.

This article isn't very accurate because it was written in May. For example, they already made a vaccine for swine flu. But it is interesting how quickly the flu spread. People are too unaware of spreading germs and staying healthy

well i mean, as Noah said....it was OKAY. we just kinda learned what H1N1 WAS, but not the ways we could PREVENT it. They talked a little bit about the vaccine you can take, or some medications that might be able to help...but i personally know a few people who are AGAINST getting the vaccine. They should talk about the ways kids and adults can make sure that everybody in their family has a less chance of getting sick. They should also send out an awareness to parents making sure that their kids don't go to school unless they are no longer sick or possibly contageous.

SCARY. I can't believe how effective swine flu can be. It seems like this article is a little old, because my dad said that over 200 people have died just in California. And 1 person dying from swine flu is not even true in Los Angeles. It's scary how fast a deadly disease can travel. I know some people that had swine flu and they said it wasn't as bad as any other flu. I think it kills soooooooo many people is, because they haven't thought of a cure for it yet. Once they come up with a vaccine swine flu will probably not be sooooo much as a problem.

P.S: I know I spelled so wrong.

I really liked the article, because it proved how dangerous HIN1 is but I have to agree with Anonymous. It isn't all accurate because the article is written in May. But it is still effective showing how dangerous swine flu actually can be.

Wow, Noah, you did a lot of studying. (Off of your facts) I didn't know that swine flu is mostly passed on from mouth to mouth. That's one thing they didn't mention in the article. And why "especially on plane flights" do people wear doctors masks? Why "especially on plane flights"? I don't think the chances of getting swine flu are skim though. Many people have died just, because of swine flu. Some of the research is wrong remember because it was written in May. (Anonymous thought of that, not me. I will not take the credit.) And the masks aren't uncomfortable.

i personally don't think article was acurate, first of all because it was written in may, second of all because there is already a pandemic, thrird of all they have already made a vaccination for H1N1, it just hasn't come out yet.

Oh dear! A pandemic... I had the H1N1 flu apparently last week, but it wasn't REALLY REALLY REALLY bad. It was just really bad. I found this article interesting, because it did tell about the research going on inside of WHO, and usually in articles the writer will imply in some strange way that 'some scientists' have been researching. I'm not sure if this means scientists at one school, or a team, or what, but I found this article good... Although I must agree with some of these people like Noah S. that it was okay. However, it is interesting that people would wear masks that cover their noses and mouths. I would do so if the H1N1 virus was deadly and could immediately affect you. But, seeing as the situation is, it is still a good idea if you're really scared about the H1N1 virus to wear a mask. Especially for people who don't have very strong immune systems. Overall, though, I learned a lot about what Anonymous said, like how unaware some people can be. x3 :3

Lily is right this article is a little off because it is written in May. I don't think it's numbers are even right for California.

To Victoria:
I have some questions, you don't have to answer them, I'm just wondering.
1. Is H1N1 any worse than any other flu?
2. Did this article explain a lot?
And 3. Was it FUN!?

P.S: Don't answer number 3.

1. Yeah, pretty much. Some people got 104 degree fevers. I just got 103. x3
2. Yes, it did... I found it very interesting. :3
3. ... *Sarcastic* It was the thrill of a lifetime. (It wasn't... now I have my "H1N1" part of the couch. x3)

I thought is was pretty good. I kinda knew that it was around the world. I watch the News! But it was nice to hear it again.

Nice? Nice? NICE??? I don't think it's very nice to have a virus going around... x3 But, yes, in the aspect of the fact that it's nice to know to be aware. So be aware (beware) for the H1N1 flu virus... :3

Noah, I definitely agree with you. Even though some precautions may be uncomfortable, we should definitely use masks and not get to close to each other. (I always avoid hugging people or shaking hands, even without swine flu). FYI: Did you know you can't transfer germs through your knuckles? (Unless you touch something with your knuckles and stick your hand in your mouth!) So instead of giving someone a high five, give them a (gentle!) "knuckle 2 knuckle". A simple change in something we do almost everyday can prevent germs! Also avoid holding hands with friends. If someone goes to hold hands with you, just tell them you don't want to get sick. (By the way... I do that so much that when someone goes to hug me, I begin to tell them I can't get sick, and they finish my sentance!) Those a a few of the ways to stay healthy. I've been taking extra precautions ever since I got Swine Flu this summer! I thought you were immune to swine flu once you've had it once, but you can actually get it again. Bummer, right? And the flu (not swine flu) vaccination only weakens the flu if you get it, not stops you from getting it.

I agree with anonymous because it was made in may we are in October in is not that accurate. More swine flu breakouts are already going around. This article was okay. I would have liked it more if it was up to date.

This experience with the swine flu made everyone more cautious about washing your hands and sneezing into your elbow and stuff like that. people are very different after the swine flu, so in a way, the flu is good because it made people's bad habits turn into good habits

Brandon B, the reason that people wear masks in plane flights is because it is higher altitude and our bodies are not designed to be that high, so we are weaker. Also, lots of strangers are in an inclosed space, so if one coughs, there is no way to air the germs out.

I was wondering, since you can't get swine flu from eating pork products, how do they get rid of it? does the swine flu just die when the pig dies? or is there some way to get rid of it while still manufacturing the pig for products??? anyone have answers??? also, i think that swine flu isnt as bad as the public makes it. i had swine flu, and it was just a 24 hour thing. also, reading this article made me think about the 1918 flu. The swine flu seems like that except that it comes from pigs? does anyone know where the 1918 flu came from??? is it possible that the swine flu is a mutated species of the 1918 flu virus? i want to hear people's thoughts and answers to my questions please!!!

also one of my friends had swine flu, and they said it wasn't bad at all, just a cold. (no one at this school) Also, when I was sick last week the doctors thought i might have had swine flu. if that is what it was, then it wasn't bad AT ALL.

Sophie, remember that in Room 5 I showed you guys the 1918 flu stuff? Remember how we talked about hoe certain flues get their names? It's named after the combination it takes to get in and to get out.

Here's a good link to the video clip on the 1918 flu: http://www.pbs.org/wgbh/nova/sciencenow/3318/02.html
